Caius Iulius Caesar 100-44 BC. Denarius 19 mm 47-46 BC Mint in Africa. Diademed head of Venus right / CAESAR Aeneas advancing left, carrying palladium in right hand and his father Anchises on left shoulder. Cr. 458/1; very fine, chipped on obv.

Anchises was the son of Capys and Themiste. Together with the goddess of love, Aphrodite (Venus), he had the son Aeneas, progenitor of the Roman people. Ascanius-Iulus, son of Aeneas, was progenitor of the Julians and Julius Caesar.
