This type refers to Q. Pompeius Rufus' grandfathers Sulla and Q. Pompeius Rufus, consuls in 88 BC. Sulla was awarded a grass crown, the most prestigious and rarest Roman military honor, during the social war. He was leader of the Optimates and became dictator in 82 BC. He tried to strengthen the senate and weakening the democratic institutions. But he was not able to stop permanently the advancing decay of the Roman Republic
