In 1894, after the death of his father Alexander III, Nicholas ascended. the Russian throne. From the start, his government was unfavorable. Due to his unsteady politics, Nikolaus himself led the Russian Empire in the revolution of 1917, which was to completely change the political world structure of the 20th century. The faith healer Rasputin was partly responsible for this development. As a close confidante of the Tsarina, he actually ruled the empire and was hated by the impoverished population because of his orgies at court. Rasputin was assassinated in 1916, a year before the revolution that led to the overthrow of the monarchy. In March 1917 the opposition to the tsarist regime had turned into a revolution and Nikolaus was forced to abdicate. He was held by the Bolsheviks, exiled to Siberia and murdered together with his family on the night of July 16-17, 1918 in Yekaterinburg.
