The first coins of of the Republic of Malawi
- Minted on ocaasion of the first independence day July 6th, 1964

In 1891 Malawi became a British protectorate, which was converted into the colony of Nyasaland in 1907. When the British government ordered conscription for the colony inhabitants in 1915, the indigenous people, led by the pediger John Chilembwe, revolted against foreign rule.
In 1964 the country finally gained independence. On this occasion, the case, limited to 10,000 copies, was issued with the first coins of the Republic of Malawi.
