Shah Riza Pahlevi
1 Pahlevi
The fairytale self-coronation of Pahlevi as Emperor of Persia in 1967 caused a worldwide sensation, as did his three dream weddings. The Islamic Revolution caused the Shah to leave the country in 1979. He should never see it again. Egypt's head of state Sadat accepted the Shah. This was followed by an odyssey to Morocco, the Bahamas, Mexico, New York and Panama before the Shah died in Cairo in 1980 of complications from cancer.
