L. Cornelius Sulla 84-79 BC. Denarius 19 mm Military mint. Head of Venus right wearing stephane in field left, Eros holding palm branch in right field L SVLLA / IMPER ITERVM Jug and lituus between two trophies. Cr. 359/2; good very fine
The obverse is illustrating the head of Venus, who helped Sulla at war against Mithridates. The Trophies on reverse are pointing to the Victories of Chaeronea 86 BC and Orchomenos 85 BC. The sacrifical instruments between them are emphasising Sulla's claim to power.
