The moneyer of this handsome denarius, C. Fonteius, originated from Tusculum - a town of the Alban Hills southeast of Rome. Tusculum was the chief cult-centre of the Dioscuri in Latium. The reverse illustrations presents the arrival of Telegonos in Latium, who founded Tusculum. Telegonos was the son of Ulysses, who fathered him with the witch Circe on the isle of Aiaia.
