Augustus 27 BC-14 AD. Denarius 19 mm 15-13 BC Lugdunum. Bare head left AVGVSTVS DIVI F / IMP X ACT Apollo standing left, holding lyre and plectrum. RIC 171b; very fine to extremely fine, flan flaw at edge; banker`s mark on obv.
Extremely rare variety with portrait to the left
Amongst all gods of the Roman pantheon, Apollo was Augustus' favorite. Apollo was his patron and the victory in the battle of Actium was connected to the god because a sanctuary of Apollo was situated in the forelands of Actium.
