Eine Karawanenstraße führte schon damals von Istros bis nach Asien

Aufgrund ihrer geographischen Lage in der Nähe der Donaumündung am Schwarzen Meer diente die Stadt Istros als Mittelpunkt des Handels zwischen Griechen und Skythen. Das erste Geld der Stadt zeigt durch die Form als "Pfeilspitze" noch seine Nähe zum Tauschobjekt. Erst ab ca. 400 v.Chr. prägte die Stadt Münzen der bekannten Art.
